From the 20th October 2025, a new feature, Data Protection Insights, will be available for Gmail users.
What is Data Protection Insights?
The new feature is an extension of the existing Insights functionality for Google Drive, with the aim of giving you a better understanding of your organisation’s data security, by providing a strategic view of potential unauthorised data transfer (such as malware) from external emails.
The feature uses metadata from your existing Google Workspace Data Loss Prevention (DLP) rules to generate high-level, aggregate statistics.
The information that it provides will allow you to:
- Identify trends in sensitive data sharing via Gmail
- Anticipate potential risk areas within your organisation
- Evaluate the effectiveness of your current data loss prevention policies
Action Required
The new feature, Data Protection Insights for Gmail, will be enabled by default on 20th October 2025, meaning no action from your end is required. If you’d like to opt out of the new feature, you can do so by accessing your Google Admin Console, and navigating to the ‘Data Protection’ section.
