Each quarter, the Ballyhoo team gets together for a team development day, hiring a meeting room in our Pure Offices building. Fuelled by a mountain of snacks, we review business performance, discuss future projects and brainstorm ideas. Here’s a closer look at what the days consist of, and why they’re so important.
Team Development Day
Uninterrupted Conversations
As creatives, we occasionally need space and time away from distractions to be creative and problem solve, and our team development days are the perfect opportunity to do this. We redirect our office phoneline for the day, with only critical calls coming through, and we focus solely on the activity at hand.
Team Building
Prioritising our team’s well-being is important to us, and our dedicated team development days nurture the team’s strong personal relationships. The day also provides us with time to generate ideas for efficient workflows, identify team strengths, and problem solve.

Business Planning
Our development days begin with a review of the company’s performance over the last quarter, covering turnover, expenditure, and client retention. This ensures the entire team is aligned, encouraging company growth and motivating continued hard work and client dedication.
We also discuss current projects in addition to upcoming projects, and how they will influence the workload in the coming months.
Enhance Collaboration Within the Team
Scheduling dedicated time away from the office can often be difficult due to the team’s busy workload; however, these events give us a dedicated full day to discuss business updates and resolve project challenges.
“After 16 years running Ballyhoo, it would be easy to become complacent but the opportunity to regularly collaborate with the team to shape our path forward is vital to Ballyhoo’s continued growth and success. I don’t think I’m speaking just for myself when I say that I come away from our team days with a renewed sense of passion for the company and what we do.” – Alison Chaffey, Creative Director
Check-in with Colleagues
Our Development Day is the perfect opportunity for in-person check-ins for our remote team members. It allows us to connect with colleagues we don’t often see face-to-face, focusing on their well-being, addressing any concerns or questions they may have, and ensuring they have the resources for remote work.
“As someone who works from home full-time, team days give me the opportunity to catch up with the team on a more personal level as well as be involved with creative discussions about the business, including current and future projects.” – Sam Bispham, Online Marketing Manager
Fun Outside of the Office
It wouldn’t be a team development day without a trip to Herbert’s Yard! After all of the hard work and brainstorming is done, we treat the team to lunch at the street food venue Herbert’s Yard in Longbridge, a two-minute walk from our office. It’s even better when the sun is shining and the tipples are flowing, in a laid-back space to talk about things outside of work.
Looking Ahead
The reason that our team development days work so well is because we have a strong and positive workplace culture, which we continue to nurture and grow. By encouraging open communication and collaboration, we create an environment where our team feels comfortable sharing ideas and working together.
