Three bank holidays, a Coronation and the Eurovision song contest – May is the month to kick off an exciting and event-packed Summer! There’s tonnes going on in Birmingham and Longbridge, so let’s jump right in.
Great Birmingham Run
The Great Birmingham Run is taking place on Sunday 7th May 2023, starting at 8am with the junior event taking place at 8:45am. Whether you’re taking part or cheering on a loved one, it’ll be an electric atmosphere and a great day to celebrate.

Street Parties for the Coronation of King Charles III
Throughout Birmingham and Longbridge there will be a host of street parties (and garden parties!), to bring the community together to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III.
You can host your own street parties as part of the Big Lunch on 7th May 2023.
Coronation Day Live at Severn Valley Railway
Celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III at Severn Valley Railway, watching on a huge screen, with a magician to keep children entertained, and a Great British Afternoon Tea! The Engine House will also have lots of miniature marvels to view.

Coronation Street Party at Drayton Manor
Enjoy the Coronation street party over the bank holiday at Drayton Manor, from 5th-8th May. Day includes street party entertainment, live shows and Thomas Land Balcony Shows, late-night rides and a fireworks finale display each evening.

Eurovision Party in Centenary Square
Come and celebrate the Eurovision Song Contest in Centenary Square on Saturday 13th May 2023. Ahead of the broadcast there will be live music, dance performances and more. There will also be a special Eastern European folk dance and Ukrainian music presented by Centrala, an internationally recognised centre for Central and Eastern European Art and Artists, based in Birmingham.

Birmingham Pride
Birmingham Pride returns this month with lots going on throughout the city over the weekend of Saturday 27th – Sunday 28th May 2023.
Makers Central
Makers Central brings together thousands of makers from all around the world, from crafters and inventors to hobbyists and artists, on 13th-14th May 2023.
There’s lots to explore, learn about and get involved in at the show hosted at the NEC.
Workshops at Birmingham Hippodrome
Birmingham Hippodrome are running a variety of workshops over the May Half Term, including Islamic Patterns class, South African fabrics class, science workshop and Chinese instrument workshops.
