From January 2026, Google is removing support for the POP Checkmail on Gmail Web feature, no longer allowing you to view emails from external accounts in your Gmail inbox via POP.
What is POP Checkmail?
The POP Checkmail feature on Gmail Web allows users to sync third-party (3P) emails into Gmail, such as Outlook and Apple Mail, to view all of your emails through a Gmail inbox.
Starting January 2026, this feature, which currently allows you to check mail from other accounts, will no longer be available in Gmail.
Gmail has stated that the reason for this change is to provide better secure options to access messages in Gmail, encouraging users to instead use IMAP rather than POP.
Action Required
This change will automatically come into effect in January 2026.
To continue accessing your emails from other email providers in Gmail, such as Outlook you can set up forwarding with your other email provider, by navigating to their documentation.
To continue using Gmail mobile applications (Android/iOS) to read and send emails from your other accounts, you’ll need to use an IMAP connection.
If you’d like to migrate or import data, you can do so by using the Google data migration service.
