Ballyhoo Are Now Members of Ecologi

May 20th, 2022 by

Last month, we became members of Ecologi – a company that plants trees and funds the world’s best carbon offsetting solutions. Since joining, we have been able to plant over 220 trees and reduced our carbon by 15 tonnes.

Who Are Ecologi

Ecologi was set up in 2009, when founders wanted a solution to being able to contribute to solving the climate problem. Ecologi helps individuals and businesses to help fight climate change by signing up to a monthly membership, with fees going straight towards helping the environment; by planting trees, funding climate projects and compensating for their carbon footprint.

Our Impact

Since joining Ecologi, in our first month alone we have been able to:

  • Plant 115 trees
  • Reduce carbon by 7.5 tonnes – equivalent to 23 metres2 of sea ice saved and 18,608 miles driven in a car
  • Helped fund a Mexican project to educated over 1,000 children about the importance of nature
  • Helped fund the first ever wind power project in Honduras that provides clean water to 2,000 local people

Going Forward

Here at Ballyhoo, we are striving to do better in terms of helping the planet. Like most, we are aware of the impacts a business can have on the environment around us, and we are putting in the work to ensure that our impact is as minimal as possible. Along with signing up to Ecologi, we are actively working with our office building and clients to create a world that will be sustainable for years to come.

A few ways in which we are doing our bit to help the environment include:

  • Using UK based servers to reduce energy usage
  • Recycling in the office
  • Retaining cardboard to use in our own no-dig garden
  • Putting pressure on our suppliers to go Green

Pure Offices Acquires Innovation Centre Longbridge

May 13th, 2022 by

The Innovation Centre in Longbridge (home of Ballyhoo HQ) has recently been acquired by Pure Offices – a serviced office operator running centres across the UK – with our Birmingham office adding to the three existing centres in the Midlands.

Who are Pure Offices?

Pure Offices provide serviced office spaces to rent, including meeting rooms, co-working spaces and virtual offices. Since being founded in 2007, they now own over 20 locations across the UK.

Their aim is to offer quality and flexible office solutions to both small businesses and international corporate businesses. Their offices have been designed to maximise wellbeing in the workplace, providing productive and enjoyable working environments through natural light and smart interiors.

With this in mind, their key focus is sustainability and making the place of work both a positive one for individuals and the planet.

Sustainability at Pure Offices

Pure Offices have a Net Zero commitment – focusing on minimising their impact on the environment.

This includes using solar power energy, low energy lighting, and sourcing electricity from renewable sources. Additionally, 50% of their centres currently have PV panels to generate solar energy, with a focus on increasing this to almost all centres throughout this year. All electricity consumed is generated from sustainable sources and is REGO regulated – meaning it is guaranteed to be from renewable sources.

In addition to this, the company has a 90% recycling target at all centres to reduce the waste going to landfill, further helping the environment.

Building A Community

Paired with sustainability, at the heart of Pure Offices focal point is community. They hold networking and social events all year round, bringing together companies within their centres to build a strong community and promoting collaboration. This also helps with networking opportunities to help businesses to grow and prosper.

Pure Offices are also involved with the outside community as well as their centre community – running regular charity events to make an impact.

What This Means for Ballyhoo

We are big on sustainability – not only to help the environment but also as we are on the journey to become B Corp accredited. What’s more, we are strong advocates for the local community and Longbridge area – from being a proud sponsor of Longbridge Light Festival to supporting local charities such as Acorns Children’s Hospice – so we are looking forward to creating an even bigger community within the Innovation Centre itself. Of course, we are also looking forward to the events that Pure Offices regularly run – including their Fresh Fruit Fridays and monthly Brunches!

We are really excited to see what the future holds here at the Innovation Centre. You can keep up-to-date with all things Ballyhoo & Longbridge by following us on Instagram and Twitter.

New Ballyhoo Website Launch

January 25th, 2022 by

As you may have noticed, the Ballyhoo website has undergone a facelift!

Today marks the day that our brand new website launches – and we are so excited to finally be able to share it with you.

We have been working on the site for far longer than we ever anticipated, but as most agencies will tell you – our own website fell to the back of the list behind clients.

The new website encompasses all that we are – modern, innovative, and progressive.

Project Brief

Our previous website was a little outdated – having been designed in 2017. Due to the age of the website, we needed to overcome the bulkiness of the site, as it was no longer fit for purpose. What’s more, the content was a little outdated, and needed to be presented in a more visually pleasing way for a better user experience.

We also wanted to showcase our website design and development skills and expertise, which we have achieved by adding new, modern features.

Additionally, the website needed to continue to be responsive – due to 25% of our visitors coming from mobile and tablet devices.

Our Favourite Features

Here are some of our favourite features that we think you should check out:

Good Morning Spinner

The greeting on the home page automatically calculates which message to show depending on the time of day, spinning through the potential options before settling on the correct greeting.

Our Brochure

Our graphic design whizz Alison has created a brochure PDF, that can be viewed on our website to give you a quick summary of who we are, what we do, and why you should work with us. This allows you to get a snapshot of Ballyhoo that you can read offline, and share with your team. You can view and download the brochure here.

Fresh Portfolio Items

As we complete some incredible projects, we wanted to be able to showcase these to show what we are capable of. Our portfolio items have been updated to be easier to read, with defined sections that allow website visitors the opportunity to read in depth about the work that we do.

See the projects here

Reading Progress Bar

Our blog is updated bi-weekly with a range of articles that differ in length, and to make these easier to read we’ve added a handy tool that displays your reading progress. This gradient progress slider appears at the bottom of the screen and shows you how far through a blog post you are. This was created with Javascript – to dynamically set the width depending on the scroll of the page – and CSS – for the style.

What’s more, the progress bar is displayed in our branded colours – cool!

Real Imagery

Wherever possible on this website, stock images have been kept to a minimum. Instead, you’ll find real photographs of the Ballyhoo office and team, which adds an authentic aesthetic and helps you get a feel for what we are really like.

A Word From Us

Ballyhoo managing director, Anthony Chaffey, has said “If you’ve heard the phrase “a plumbers tap always drips”, that’s the analogy we used to describe our old website; we didn’t feel it represented what we were capable of but struggled to find the time to do much about it. The Ballyhoo team have worked hard in and around client projects to deliver something that really shows what we can do. We’re also fully embracing the concept of “dogfooding” with this iteration of our site; we’re using all of the technologies and techniques that we have been recommending to our clients for years. We hope this will give us more insight into the daily operations of our customers and demonstrates our confidence in the tools we build.“

So take a look around the new website and let us know what you think on Twitter or Instagram.
